UBC seaside - Wreck Beach

Hey it's me once again!
Today was good weather so I decided to go out for a walk instead of sitting at home. I heard the area, specially the seaside, should be beautiful so I took the bus to UBC (University of British Columbia). The bus drive took me about 40 minutes and through some sweet little districts. Once I was at my destination I wandered along the street till I got to the trail #6 which allowed me to go down to the seaside. The seaside down there is really beautiful and there is just the sound of the sea and the birds. I nearly hiked along the beach and enjoyed the quiet moment alone. After two hours of walk I went back to a busstation and took the bus back to my homestay.

VanDusen botanic garden

Today in the afternoon I went to the botanical garden "VanDusen" near to my homestay. I thought first it's just a small kind of a rain forrest but in reality it's a real botanic garden with plants from all around the world and of course with entrance charge =) Surprise, Surprise =)
Nevertheless it was a great day and a very beatiful place for a walk. I had nearly forgot that I was walking in the middle of a huge city because it was so quiet and unwinding. Only the sound of a siren of a policecar or abulance reminded me from time to time that I'm surrounded with a city.

Ah I nearly forgot to tell you that I was back on a floorball pitch after a year of absence. I played with a buddy from school in North Vancouver in the league of Vancouver past thursay. It was quite funny and we met some guys from Sweden, Denmark and surprisingly from Canada.

Easter Sunday

Switzerlaaaaaand! Make some noooooise!!

I'm back and ready to write the next post for you all!
This week was an ordinary one. I did nothing special like going on a seaplane tour or to whistler. Actually the weather was just to bad to do much outside... So I just went to school all days and came home afterwards to play with the kids and ofcourse to do my homework! =)
At the long weekend we just went to make party every evening, which was fun.
To day was a festival in the middle of downtown. Well we thought it is a festival but it was the celebration of weed called 420. So we spent there about an hour and then I went back to my homestay together with Yannick, because in my homestay was a big easter celebration and my hostmom Pam told me I should invite a friend from school. There were about 30 people in our house and much of meet. They grilled a whole lamb on a spit. But just see the pictures and you'll know what I meant! =)

Seaplane Tour

I did it! Two posts at the same day! (Nearly =D )
It was an awesome day! I went with some friends from school for a 30 min seaplane tour! The weather and the view was great! It was a very special feeling to start with a plane on the water. Everything was shaking and the whole airplane was kind of jumping up and down.
We started in direction Stanleypark and then turned right to horsehoe bay, where the BC ferries terminal to Vancouver Island is. Once we reached the bay we made a 180° turn back to Vancouver Downtown and circumnavigate it twice. After that we did a small curve above the Standley park and landed in front of the seaplane port.
It was just awesome and breathtaking to see all this stuff from the bird's-eye view!

Whistler

Hello lasses and lads!!
Yesterday I went with some buddies from school to Whistler, one of the most known ski resort in the world. It's a small town with about 10'000 inhabitants but the ski area has over 200 rides. This fact makes it to the biggest ski area in North America. It's also good known because of the olympic wintergames which were there in the year 2010.
So thats where we went. The ski area includes two mountains, Whistler Mountain  and Blackcomb Peak,  which are connected with a gondola, which is called "peak 2 peak" gondola. This gondola has the longest unsupported span in the world, 3.024km without a mast, and the highest hight above ground, 436m. It was a cool experience to drive with this gondula and the view we had on top of the mountains was just breath taking! Back in Whistler town we went to a samll lake called "Lost Lake". It's a small lake, surrounded from trees, in the middle of nowhere. It remembered me somehow to the Waldsee in Steinhausen. However, after walking along the shore we went back to Whistler to eat something and drink a beer.
On our way back to Vancouver we had a short stop to see the sunset. A beautiful sight.

Chinatown

Guuguuselii!!
I'm back! At last I found some time to write the next post! As you maybe have noticed, I'm quite busy here in Canada. This city is huge and there are many cool places to explore.
My last discovery tour brought me to Chinatown, a part of Vancouver Downtown.
I've to say, it's a very special place. The foodstores along the roads are very special and how I would expect it from a chinese store. In one of the stores was a bird sitting and eating from the nuts which are going to be sold.
After we wandered for about 1.5 hours through the streets of Chinatown, we decided to visit the chinese garden. This garden is in every city guide of Vancouver and all of them say this garden is something you must have seen. But actually it's just a small green spot with some bamboo and a dirty pond in the middle. It was kind of disappointing.
But never mind, life goes on and my stay here is still long enough to find some other cool places. =D
